A Prayer for Godly Families. (Prayer Journal 83)

Father, in Jesus' name, I bless and praise You my God and King. You are glorious, gracious, magnificent, merciful, mighty, and majestic. There is no one like You for You are the One and only true and living God. You are the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth who neither grows tired nor weary. You are the great One who is greatly to be praised and Your greatness is unsearchable. Your greatness no one can fathom. It is amazing for us to contemplate that through faith in Jesus Christ You have adopted us into Your royal family. You are our Father and we are Your dearly loved child!

Father, teach us to parent our children as You parent us. You are the One who has replaced our stony hearts with hearts of flesh. I ask You to do the same for our children. Take out the rocky ground and chip away at the hardness in their hearts. Grant them soft and sensitive hearts for Your Word to be planted and watered by us. Help us to see beyond their outward behavior and the way that they seem, at times, to kick against everything that we say to them that pertains to You and Your Kingdom. May You give us spiritual eyes to see that You are at work in our children's hearts and lives, even in the midst of the hard, as we give You thanks and praise. Empower us to point them to Jesus so that they may know You and have eternal life.

God, every member of our households need You. Would You work such a magnificent work of redemption, salvation, and transformation in our families that we would not be able to believe it even if You told us in advance? Bring every member of our households to the place where we love You with all that we are and all that You have given us. May You only have the preeminence, priority, and first place in our marriages and families. Help us to truly love one another as Jesus has first loved us. Use our families to give a picture, though imperfect, of what it means to be in Your eternal family and to take the hope and love of Christ to those around us.

God, help us to esteem one another more highly than ourselves and to encourage and build each other up and not to tear each other down. Grant us the grace to forgive one another the way that You, in Christ, have forgiven us. Bring healing to the hurts and bind up the wounds that we have caused one another. I pray for a legacy of faith to be passed down from one generation to the next until the return of Jesus Christ. Lead each generation to grow in the depths, heights, width, and breadth of Your love. Grant us the privilege to see our children's children serving the purposes of God in their generation. May the fruit that You produce through our families bless nations with the hope of the gospel of Your Kingdom. Thank You for the covenantal faithfulness and generational blessings of Christ to our families.

God, as You did for the family of Jacob, would You take what has been intended for evil in our families and make it good? We plead the blood of Jesus over our families and declare that no weapon that the enemy forms against us shall prosper. Please constantly remind us that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood (against one another) but against powers, principalities, rulers, authorities, and spiritual wickedness in the heavenly realms. May we fight these battles in the whole armor of God. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, the casting down of imaginations that exalt themselves above the knowledge of God, and the taking captive of every thought to the obedience of Jesus Christ. Thank You for hearing this prayer and for doing exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or imagine according to Your great power that is working in us. In Jesus' name, Amen!!!
