Father, You are good and Your mercy endures forever. Thank You for Your presence with me. Your presence goes before me, surrounds me, and is already in the places I am on my way to. You have promised never to leave me nor forsake me. You are everywhere present throughout Your creation. There is nowhere that I could go where You are not.
You told Jonah to go to the great city of Ninevah and preach against it because of their evil ways. He tried to flee from Your presence only to find himself in a storm, thrown overboard from a boat, drowning in the sea, and swallowed by a great fish. You sent the fish to save his life. From the belly of that fish, he repented of his sin, and You caused that fish to spit him out.
You graciously gave him another chance to do Your will despite his disobedience. You sent him to preach a message of repentance to the city of Ninevah. The king and all the people repented in sackcloth and ashes, and You relented from sending disaster. One of the greatest revivals in the history of the world took place in a pagan nation by the preaching of a disobedient and reluctant prophet. The change of heart of the Assyrians was a work of Your Spirit. You not sending disaster on them was because of Your compassionate and merciful heart. The same heart that Jonah himself experienced.
Like Jonah, I have disobeyed You and been reluctant to do Your will. Move me, like You did him in the belly of the fish, to repent of my sin and walk in the newness of life that I have in Jesus Christ. Help me to obey You as You speak to me again to join You in what You are doing in the earth. Anoint me to preach a message of repentance in this nation and world filled with gross immorality, injustice, and inhumanity. By You Spirit and because of Your great compassion and mercy bring revival to Your people and spiritual awakening to those who do not know Jesus. Amen!
